Afluências: The Art of the Jequitinhonha Valley

The temporary exhibition Afluências (“Streams”) was the inaugural exhibit at the opening of the GBV gallery at the Museu Casa do Pontal in 2008. The exhibit offered retrospective a of the artistic production of the Jequitinhonha Valley, with works of art, photographs, films and videos about the area, consolidated to be one of the main centers of folk art in Brazil with important and widely known artists and ceramicists. Works by Noemisa Batista, Ulisses Pereira Chaves, Dona Isabel, Gloria Maria de Andrade, the Teixeira sisters, Deuzani Gomes dos Santos, among others were featured in the exhibition. Besides the works belonging to the Casa do Pontal collection, there were works from private collectors, the Museu de Folclore Edison Carneiro and the Centro Nacional de Folclore e Cultura Popular (National Center for Folklore and Popular Culture).
