The exhibit "Brazilian folk art" resulted from an invitation from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations to the Museu Casa do Pontal, with the logistical support of the Brazilian Embassy in India. Approximately 38 well-known artists from nine Brazilian states, whose works contribute to increase the knowledge about the customs and ideas about art made in Brazil. Two hundred fifty sculptures were selected for the exhibit from the Northeast (Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Pernambuco, Bahia), Midwest (Goiás), Southeast (Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro) and Sul (Santa Catarina). The themes stress the experiences of everyday life, both for festivals as well as for religious relationships. They represented work in urban and rural settings, technological achievements, labor demands (as in a strike), dancing, dating and marriage. And even their dreams, imagination and death. The works as a whole offer a vision of a diverse Brazil, conscious and festive, which keeps its traditions and at the same time is always open to new experiences brought about by contact with different cultures and peoples in the world.
