Artist Antonio de Oliveira left records of his weekend experiences of hunting small animals and fishing in the town of Belmiro Braga in Southeast Minas Gerais, where he was born and lived to a ripe old age. Through his memories it is possible to discover how this practice is included in recreation in the Brazilian countryside. The hunting theme also appears in the country art of Pernambuco and other north-eastern States. With the increase in ecological awareness, hunting and fishing, even when non-predatory, is being reviewed.
