Dida

Olinta Teixeira was born in 1936 in the municipality of Caraí, Minas Gerais State. Known as Dida, she learned to work with clay with the family of Noemisa Batista. Her work is poetic and delicate. Adopting the fantastic models present mostly in Caraí, she created charming scenes of children, women and animals. She also invented dog-women, dolls and crucifixes. She taught her nieces Ana, Elia and Maria how to model clay and they continue with her work. She was single and died around 15 years ago in consequence of a serious dispute with a relative.
