Antônia Vieira

Antonia da Conceição Vieira was born in 1911 in Tracunhaém, Pernambuco State. She began working with clay in 1921, producing utility ceramics. For 40 years she worked in several pottery services. With such continuous effort she contracted a serious illness, which kept her in bed for the rest of her life. Although disabled, she continued working with clay, creating religious figures, with focus on unusual shapes. Her family, also ceramists, knew her as Toinha, but she used Antonia to sign her saints and angels. She is deceased.
